Advanced Training

Foundation Graduates and Trained Coaches Can Deepen Their Skills

Our Advanced courses serve as the natural next step following the Foundation Program, providing an opportunity for deeper learning and specialization. Offered “à la carte” throughout the year, these courses allow students to customize their learning experience with flexible scheduling and a diverse selection of topics. Each class builds upon the rigorous foundation established in our core curriculum, covering essential areas such as organizing, productivity, time management, ADHD, neurodivergence, and leadership.

Ideal for students progressing toward one of our nine credentials, these courses also fulfill continuing education requirements for recertification. Additionally, they offer a valuable pathway for coaches trained in other ICF-accredited programs who wish to expand their expertise in these critical subject areas. Whether you’re advancing your professional credentials or refining your skills in a specialized domain, our Advanced Courses provide the tools and knowledge to support your growth.

There’s something for everyone!

We’ve welcomed coaches from the UK, Canada, Australia, South America, and across Europe. In 2024 we served over 80 students in 12 different Advanced courses.

Advanced Coach Training

Peruse the various course categories, dates, times, and instructors. Our Foundation Training graduates may choose most any course, and those who wish to pursue a specific credential should check the requirements to determine their best choices. Of course, our graduates may choose Advanced Training courses for pure learning, and our courses often count for CEU credits for the Certified Professional Organizer® (CPO) or Certified Professional Organizer in Chronic Disorganization® (CPO-CD) credentials (note that the final determination for accepting those credits is determined by the organizations conferring the certifications).

Coaches trained in other ICF-accredited programs with at least 60 hours of training and 100 or more client hours should check possible pre-requisites before registering (although many may be taken for CCEs without prior courses). Those who wish to pursue one of our credentials should schedule a time with our Director of Education to determine their best path, and learn about the best ways to become oriented to our program.

However you come to the Advanced Training program, you can expect rigorous, high-level learning, the support of our expert trainers, and deep, thought-provoking class discussions. Classes sizes are kept small for optimal learning. Most Advanced courses also feature our unique Skills Building Group format, offering the opportunity to practice coaching with other students in each course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to take Coach Approach Training Institute Advanced Training courses?

Our Coach Approach Training Institute Foundation Training graduates and transferring coaches with 60+ training hours and 100+ client hours.

I have an advanced degree in psychology–may I take Advanced courses?

While we have many students with psychology or mental health backgrounds (providing an excellent foundation for coaching skills), this type of a degree is not equivalent to the skills taught in our Foundation Training program. If you have no other coach-specific training, you will start with the Foundation.

What are the reasons for taking Advanced Training courses?
For some, the main reason is to meet the requirements for earning a specific credential. For some, pure learning is the goal, and for others, Coach Continuing Education credits for recertification are the motivation for registering.
Are these courses all about ADHD?

While ADHD is not in the title of every Advanced Training course, all will touch on skills applicable to working with clients with ADHD or other neurodivergence. Many offer rigorous, graduate-level learning for ADHD coaches.

Is there an order for the courses, just like in the Foundation Training program?

Possibly. Coaches trained in other programs who meet the requirements will likely start with our ADHD Education and/or Distinguishing ADHD Coaching courses. Other courses, such as Body-Based Coaching or Productivity Coaching may be taken without prerequisites. Please check the individual course information carefully.

How much do Advanced Training courses cost?

The courses are offered à la carte, and pricing ranges from $450 to $835 at full payment. Monthly payment options are available.

How long are these classes?

It varies. Most courses run from 4-6 weeks, OR our seminar-style courses run once a month, ten months out of the year. There’s something to fit even the busiest schedule.

Class time is generally 90 minutes, delivered live online via Zoom. Many classes also require weekly Skills Building Groups of 90-120 minutes to practice skills with other students.

What is the workload like for these courses?
Some courses require extensive outside assignments (such as reading, listening, case studies, or other projects), and some require little to none. Check individual course pages to learn more.

Our Skills Building Groups

Integral to our program is a unique and transformative feature: the Skills Building Groups (SBGs). A part of our entire Foundation program, many of our Advanced courses also require students to meet outside of full classes in small groups of 2-3 peers. These groups create an essential space for practicing and refining their coaching skills.

Why are these SBGs so critical? Because great coaches are made through consistent, live practice. While classroom instruction and discussion of the concepts is key, we believe that the coaching “muscle” strengthens only with regular use. The SBG meetings allow students to coach one another, gaining real-world experience that deepens their proficiency, confidence, and ability to be fully present in their current and future work with clients.

To ensure accountability and maximize growth, we ask students to record their meetings, and participants submit reflective reports for instructor feedback. Additionally, select sessions are observed by instructors to provide personalized verbal and written guidance. These groups aren’t just a requirement—they’re an opportunity to grow not only as coaches but as individuals, shaping a foundation for meaningful, impactful work.
